Olivier Laquerre
Canadian bass-baritone, Olivier Laquerre, has gained recognition globally for his skill, having won international voice competitions in Paris and Verviers. A student of well-known teachers like Jan Simons in Montreal, Patricia Kerne in Toronto and Marlena Malas in the US, he has become one
of the most sought-after performers in the operatic world.
Since taking home the prestigious Joseph-Rouleau Prize at the Jeunesses Musicales of Canada Voice
Competition in 1999, his popularity has grown tremendously. He has appeared in the title role in Monteverdi’s Il Ritomo d’Ulisse in Patria in 2007 and frequently can be heard on both English and French networks of the CBC with his performances.
Laquerre is a regular guest soloist with many Canadian orchestras and ensembles, including the Symphony Nova Scotia, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Montreal and the Quebec Symphony orchestras. In the Magic Flute, he takes on the role of a sly hunter who uses music to imitate the voice of birds in order to deceive and catch them.
