Literary and royal worlds will collide next week when the granddaughter of L.M. Montgomery meets the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Maud’s granddaughter, Kate Macdonald Butler (pictured above: left), is travelling to PEI with her daughter, Eliza, and plans to present the Duchess with a special 100th Anniversary Edition of Anne of Green Gables at a reception held at Dalvay by the Sea on July 4.

Apparently, this special edition features the original cover by George Gibbs, along with illustrations inside by M.A. Claus and W.A.J. Claus.  Also, Kate and David Macdonald – Maud’s two grandchildren – have written a new introduction for the book.

Kate is the daughter of Maud’s youngest son, Dr. Stuart Macdonald (pictured above), and has two children.  She wrote The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook in 1984 and is a board member of the Anne of Green Gables Licensing Authority Inc.  She also manages the Toronto office of the “Anne” Authority, which is owned by both Prince Edward Island and Maud’s heirs.

She is president of the Heirs of L.M. Montgomery, and is both a board member of the L.M. Montgomery Heritage Society and a patron of the L.M. Montgomery Society of Ontario.

Stay tuned for more details about the Royal couple’s trip!
