Yesterday, we brought you news that the new Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is insisting that her Canadian tour this summer include a visit to the home of her favourite fictional heroine: Anne Shirley.

According to the Daily Mail, it has been Kate’s lifelong dream to visit Prince Edward Island and see the actual places that famous author L.M. Montgomery included in her novel, Anne of Green Gables, which was Kate’s most beloved book from childhood.

But Kate and William are not the first members of the Royal Family to visit the island.  Back in August of 1860, the former Prince of Wales, Albert Edward, enjoyed a tour P.E.I, which signified the first time a royal had visited the province.

More recently, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, visited the city of Cavendish in 2000 during her very first trip as a member of the Windsors.

And between 1939 and 1973, Queen Elizabeth II visited the island an impressive six times in total.  Her travelling partners were either her father, King George VI, the Queen Mum or her husband, Philip.

Stay tuned for more details about Kate’s trip to P.E.I.!  As of now, the couple’s Canadian tour includes stops in Ottawa, Quebec, Alberta and the Northwest Territories.
