Here is a look at these fantastic board games, with an explanation of how AvFan4vr made them!
“In November of 2010 I was in a Salvation Army thrift store and found a sealed ‘Make Your Own Opoly’ game. I looked at the box for quite some time, reading what was included in the set and contemplating whether or not I even wanted to bother creating a game that I would more than likely only play one or two times. I decided to purchase the set and three weeks later I installed the software that came with the set onto my computer.”
However, after discovering the software wouldn’t work, she turned to Paint.net to design the board, and planned to take her design to a print shop at the end. After deciding to make two separate 19-inch wide board games (one for Road to Avonlea and one for Wind at My Back), she began working. The Avonleapoly board, which took about two months to make, was fairly easy to design, she says, because of how familiar she is with Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea.

“The Wind at My Back board proved to be a bit more difficult,” she explains. “I wanted to make it seem as though one were walking down the main street of New Bedford, but I wasn't exactly certain what the layout was. I contacted a friend who has been a fan of the show since the show originally aired and he was a wonderful help not only in mapping out the street but also in giving me ideas for the train stations as well as the chest/chance cards. There's actually a disclaimer on the Wind at My Back board that reads ‘Despite Callie Cramp's claim this game has been a collaborative effort of multiple people...’” she laughs.

“The Avonleapoly property cards pretty much feature images of the buildings, but the WaMB cards feature characters from the show…The chance/chest cards were a lot of fun to design. I went onto the forum and asked the forumers for ideas and received a very interested array. I ended up making about forty cards for each game and would eventually like to make more.”

But AvFan4vr’s work is not yet done. She’s now embarking on a plan to design her own money for Avoneapoly.
