The outpouring of affection and admiration for the late Jackie Burroughs comes as no surprise.  As a constant presence in the lives of Road to Avonlea viewers, as well as a staple of the Canadian stage and screen, Burroughs touched all who watched her.

Here is a look at just some of the comments that people have been posting on a site addressing the recent news of her passing.  They reveal a great deal about what the actress actually meant to people, as well as some humorous and lovely stories about the woman herself.  We encourage you to add your own memories.

-  Canada has lost another wonderful and talented actress. She was one of a kind. Every actor dreams of having a career like hers, long-lasting and memorable.

-  Aunt Hetty always struck fear into my little child heart and made me want to sit up straight! Jackie Burroughs was incredible.

-  I feel like I've lost a family member -- I grew up on ROAD TO AVONLEA.  R.I.P. Jackie; as an icon of the Canadian TV screen you will be missed but never forgotten.

-  I had the pleasure of knowing her socially about Cabbagetown's haunts, and she was always approachable and was the very epitome of humility. None of that big fish/small pond stuff with her. A lovely woman. I'm so sorry I shan't run into her again.

-  I remember seeing Jackie Burroughs on the train..I smiled at her in recognition & she winked at me!

-  No mention of Jackie when she was Head Girl at Toronto's Branksome Hall. She excelled in swimming, was a beautiful diver and as students we were just blown away when she would recite Shakespeare on stage at morning assembly. A very unique, intelligent and gifted actor and may she rest in peace.

-  RIP, Jackie Burroughs. She, along with Colleen Dewhurst, really proved that "women of age" definitely have a place on stage and screen.

-  Met her as an extra on the set of The Road to Avonlea.  She was always cracking up and generous. She was genuine and real; what you saw was just what you got.  She spent a great deal of time encouraging everyone on the set including that day, as I recall, Faye Dunaway and Maureen Stapleton.  Jackie Burroughs could stay ahead of the best of them!

-  Very sad news, indeed. I recall meeting Ms. Burroughs in passing on a Toronto street (she getting on the TTC, me exiting), it was at the time she played Mother Mucca on Tales of the City. I adored her performance and had a chance to tell her. She was lovely and warm and gave me a hug and a kiss on the cheek. I think that tells a lot about her.

-  A class act - I will miss her. She encompasses everything that is wonderful in a talented actor: presence, performance and character. Bravo Lady Burroughs, Canada will mourn your curtain call. May your loved ones be comforted by our adoration.

She was a dramatic, extremely skilled actor who women of all ages could empower themselves to do what they each believe in doing with their own life. I personally will miss her, and have over the years of Road to Avonlea taped shows can enjoy her acting for years to come. God Bless the family in your loss, gain strength in that Jackie Burroughs will never be forgotten.

Thank you for notifying me of her passing I would not have known. She is and angel now I always wished I had Aunt Heddy to advise me in my own life. Or be able to walk in her home with the chimmney smoking the black cap chickadees talking and pass the day. Helping with whatever she had going. I to feel like I have LOST a family member and am crying copius tears. Good bye for now Jackie.
