'The Most Inspiring Woman' Essay Winners!

To choose one moving story over another equally impressive opinion piece on “the most inspiring woman” was a difficult task for the judges of our "End of Summer Essay Contest".  But we have chosen two final winners, as well as two runners-up – and all four of their pieces are posted below.

Road to Avonlea fans may already know that series was inspired by L.M. Montgomery’s two novels, The Story Girl and The Golden Road, but they may not have realized that the actual episodes are available as eBooks!

PEI Offers $500 off Airfare!

Written by Clare

A trip to Anne’s home, Prince Edward Island, is on the wish list of many Anne fans worldwide.  And now, the province of PEI is making that wish a little more attainable for people living in New York.  The island is offering a $500 airfare credit to tourists coming from the Big Apple this summer!

Craig Kielburger, founder of Free The Children, sat down with Kevin Sullivan and explained how he felt Anne of Green Gables embodied many of the themes his organization represented. Specifically, he talked about empowering women.

We’d like to sincerely thank everyone who participated in our Prince Edward Island Trivia Contest, which was created in celebration of Prince William’s and Kate Middleton’s recent visit to the Island.

According to CTV News, thousands of Canadians have already gathered at the National War Memorial in Ottawa as they await the arrival of Prince William and Kate Middleton.  The Royal couple are arriving in Canada’s capital city today, just in time for its Canada Day festivities tomorrow.

Recent news that Anne of Green Gables fan, the Duchess of Cambridge, will get to sample raspberry cordial during her visit to P.E.I. has reporters quipping that they hope she knows her cordial from her wine.

Literary and royal worlds will collide next week when the granddaughter of L.M. Montgomery meets the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Will and Kate's P.E.I. Schedule!

Written by Clare

William and Kate’s itinerary for their tour of Prince Edward Island has just recently been disclosed to The Globe and Mail.  According to a source, the Royal couple will be visiting a number of sites, including the famous Dalvay By The Sea resort, which was featured in both the Anne of Green Gables films and Road to Avonlea as the White Sands Hotel!

In anticipation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s upcoming visit to Prince Edward Island – the home of Anne of Green Gables and the residents of Avonlea – Sullivan Entertainment is hosting a P.E.I. trivia challenge!

Gilbert Blythe Places First!

Written by Clare

Though he was up against some stiff competition, it comes as no surprise that the winner of our Ultimate Classical Hero contest, Gilbert Blythe, is the soul mate of your favourite heroine, Anne Shirley!  With a total of 1,381 total votes over the past four weeks - in comparison to the first runner-up, Mr. Darcy (who had a total of 855 votes) - Gilbert won by a considerable margin!

SullivanMovies.com would like to announce that although Sullivan Insider memberships will no longer be available at the end of June, Sullivan Entertainment is currently working on a new format and business model for our fans.

There has been increased speculation over the places William and Kate will visit in Prince Edward Island ever since a British television crew was spotted filming on the island.  The crew of the British morning show, Daybreak, has been traveling to places they suspect the Duke and Duchess will visit during their visit on July 3-4.  These include Green Gables, Avonlea Village (pictured above), the Canadian Coast Guard auxiliary, Province House and Victoria Row.

The most shy and gentle hero of all, Matthew Cuthbert, placed first in last week’s round of our Ultimate Classical Hero Contest!  He earned a total of 589 points, followed by the strikingly handsome, Rhett Butler.  His famous stand against Scarlett O’Hara has the same impact on viewers, more than 70 years later.  To see a full list of everyone’s scores, see below.

Week Two's Winning Heroes!

Written by Clare

Last week’s results of the Ultimate Hero Contest are in and it seems that Jane Austen’s heroic creation, Mr. Darcy, has won by a landslide (607 votes), with Indiana Jones placing second at 241 total votes.  All voting results can be found in the chart below.  And now, we have a new list of ten men to choose from!

Any previous speculation about the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit to Prince Edward Island has now been set in stone.  Today, it was announced that the newlyweds will begin their first trip abroad together on June 30, stopping in eight Canadian cities over nine days, including Charlottetown and Summerside, P.E.I.

Last Week's Winning Heroes!

Written by Clare

The first week of our Ultimate Classical Hero Contest is now complete and, not surprisingly to some, Gilbert Blythe is currently in first place, followed by everybody’s favourite “Pa”, Charles Ingalls!  It was a tight race - Aragorn was narrowly squeezed out of the competition (see results below) – and we now have a new set of men for you to choose from.

It’s a gratifying time for Prince Edward Islanders as they learn the news that not only are Prince William and Kate Middleton making a stop on their island during their upcoming Canadian tour, but that it is the place Kate is insisting on seeing.  The simple fact that Anne of Green Gables is Kate’s favourite childhood book is resulting in a great amount of media attention for the province, which already sees hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Yesterday, we brought you news that the new Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, is insisting that her Canadian tour this summer include a visit to the home of her favourite fictional heroine: Anne Shirley.

Now that we’ve celebrated our favourite women from literature, it’s time to switch genders and focus on the most memorable men in our lives in the lead up to Father's Day.  Starting now, Sullivan Entertainment’s “Ultimate Classical Hero Contest” is up and running! Here’s how it works:

It’s been the lifelong dream of one of the most popular women in the world to visit the land of Anne.  This summer, Kate Middleton - Prince William’s new bride - is insisting on visiting Prince Edward Island as part of the couple’s North American tour so that she can see personally see the setting of her favourite childhood book, Anne of Green Gables.

Upcoming Ultimate Heroes Contest!

Written by Clare

Not too long ago we conducted a very successful “Ultimate Classical Heroine” contest in which we crowned our top female, Anne Shirley, and created a very inspirational video featuring all of our favourite women (which you can see here).  We’ve been receiving lots of inquires as to whether we are planning to conduct a Heroes contest and we are very excited to confirm that we are!

We wanted to welcome any new fans that have recently “liked” our Anne of Green Gables Facebook page!  But we also wanted you to know that if you’re a fan of Sullivan Entertainment, there are a number of other related Facebook pages and twitter accounts that you will enjoy.

Since the beginning of November 2010, SullivanMovies.com has provided a number of in-depth Q&A's with some of your favourite stars of Sullivan Productions.  One of the first performers we contacted, and who graciously agreed to an interview, was the great Canadian actress, Marilyn Lightstone, who starred as Miss Muriel Stacey in both the Anne of Green Gables series and Road to Avonlea.  She also starred in one of  Kevin Sullivan’s very first films, The Wild Pony, in 1983.

Make sure to take a look at all the exclusive material available to Sullivan Insiders this week at sullivanmovies.com.  One of the featured videos is a behind-the-scenes look at the filming locations used in the series Wind at My Back, personally told by the show’s location manager, Dan Matthews.
