Here’s a look at the actor’s extensive background in the industry – including his most famous role.
The Dutch actor’s longevity in the film industry has been punctuated with several cult classics. He is perhaps best known for his starring role in Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott in 1982. The famous sci-fi thriller, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, stars Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Daryl Hannah, and is set in the year 2019. Hauer stars as the ruthless leader of a group of renegade “replicants” (artificially created humans) who are trying to return to earth looking for their maker.
Other well-known films from his past include the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie and Ladyhawke. His more recent hit films include Batman Begins, Sin City and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. He has appeared on several shows, including Smallville, Alias and The 10th Kingdom. And since performing in the Magic Flute Diaries, Hauer has appeared in such features as Bride Flight, The Rhapsody and Happiness Runs, to name just a few.
Hauer has won a number of awards over the years, including a Golden Globe in 1988 for his supporting role in the miniseries Escape from Sobibor.
