Love, Loss, and What I Wore
On the heels of our recent tribute to Patricia Hamilton, the actress who played Rachel Lynde in both Anne of Green Gables and Road to Avonlea, we’d thought we’d update you on her recent theatrical work alongside some of Canada’s most familiar female faces.
A Trip Through Rosedale
This production still captures the scene when Anne and the students from Kingsport Ladies College enjoy a carriage ride through the streets surrounding Mrs. Harris’ grand estate in Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel. This scene was actually filmed in the streets of Toronto and the location was picked for its markedly Edwardian ambiance.
Staging Opera for the Screen
“Opera is rarely seen on film, simply because it so often gets lost in translation, but Sullivan was intentional in his determination to bring the sensation of the stage to the screen.” – Mozart’s The Magic Flute Dairies – Official Movie Companion
In order to make a smooth and authentic transition from the theatre to the screen, Kevin Sullivan collaborated with a real opera company, Opera Atelier, for the making of Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries.
Pivotal Act of Defiance at Historic Location
Viewers witness one of the most important acts of defiance between Grace Bailey and her mother when Grace goes against May’s wishes and boards a train to attend a wedding, along with Judd Wainwright, in Season One’s episode, “Aunt Grace’s Wedding”.
The Story Girl Stars in Splice
Fans of The Story Girl are in for a sci-fi thriller when Sarah Polley’s latest movie, Splice, hits theatres June 4. The horror film premiered last night in Toronto at the Winter Garden Theatre where Polley and her co-star, Oscar-winner Adrien Brody, walked the red carpet.
Quick Location Change Results in Magical Scene
“The romance of winter was captured at its most illusory…” - Kevin Sullivan, on the filming of the proposal scene in Anne of Green Gables: The Sequel.
Viewers may not know that the location of the infamous proposal scene between Morgan Harris and Anne Shirley was chosen at the last minute under hurried conditions.
The Man Behind the Music
Just as Anne Shirley’s words form some of the most memorable quotes, so too does the musical score of Anne of Green Gables form an emotional memory for the film’s viewers. You can hear the first few bars of Anne’s theme music, written by composer Hagood Hardy, and be instantly transported back to the first time you saw Anne walking through the woods on her way to Hammond’s Mill. As part of ‘music week’ at Sullivan Entertainment, here’s a look at the history of the man who created these lasting notes.
Hub Bailey Plans for the Priesthood
You can love God and love a girl at the same time, Hubert. You just can’t be a priest while you’re doing it. – Father Fitzroy, A Wind at my Back Christmas
Deciding to study at the seminary at the University of Toronto would have been a hard decision for any young man to face. But when Hub Bailey meets Anna Schiller, an Austrian music student who faces the threat of deportation at the onslaught of World War II, his world is dramatically changed.
