Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries fans may want to head to the theatres to catch the latest Rutger Hauer (Professor Nagel) film, The Mill and the Cross. The movie premiered at the Sundance Festival earlier this year, and is now being released at select theatres across North America.

For all lovers of a good murder-mystery, there’s a new detective novel to check out, starring Mozart himself. Author Matt Rees has published a book called Mozart’s Last Aria, which builds on the famously murky circumstances surrounding the beloved musician’s death.
Rutger Hauer is an icon in the movie industry based on his portrayal of unforgettable characters, such as the leader of the replicant group in the sci-fi thriller Blade Runner. In recent years, the striking Dutch actor has been seen in such films as Sin City, Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale, and Kevin Sullivan’s Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries.
For Kevin Sullivan, one of the most important aspects of bringing opera to the big screen in Mozart’s Magic Flute Diaries was showcasing the wonderful baroque costumes of Mozart’s era. He wanted to create a “spectacle of live performance”. And this meant only the most vibrant and imaginative costumes could be used.
In the following excerpt from an exclusive interview Kevin Sullivan conducted with one of his fans, he explains his fascination for Mozart and how his curiosity about the musical genius led him to make the feature film Mozart's Magic Flute Diaries and the documentary Mozart Decoded.

There are many different kinds of flutes in the world, and many different ways in making them too. But for fun we are going to try to create a flute called Zhu Di. It is one of the most popular flutes in Asia and it’s usually made from Bamboo.
